The Nelson Boat Ramp,
also known as the Kellet Street Boat Ramp, located at Kellet St., Nelson, is a
two-lane concrete ramp with a jetty right in the middle. Launching into the
Glenelg River using the ramp is easy for all boaters. This spot is a hotspot for
watersports and fishing, with anglers often reeling in mulloway and estuary
perch. A fish cleaning station is available nearby.
The ramp is well-lit
at night, making evening launches and retrievals a breeze.
Parking is no problem,
with plenty of space for cars and trailers close to the ramp. If you're up for
a peaceful cruise, the Lower Glenelg National Park offers stunning scenery, and
you’ll pass by charming old boathouses lining the riverbanks. Along the shore,
you’ll find benches and picnic tables; perfect for kicking back and soaking in
the river views.
There are plans in the
works by the Nelson Committee of Management to upgrade the area, including bump
stops to mark the end of the ramp and clearer parking line markings for better
organization. Keep an eye out for swans, coots, and pelicans, as this is a
great spot for birdwatching too!
