Advancetown Lake Eastern Boat Ramp

Tucked away in the stunning Gold Coast hinterland, Advancetown Lake is a peaceful retreat with two major arms forming a rough horseshoe shape. If you paddle the shortest route from one end to the other, it stretches about 16 km. The lake is also home to Hinze Dam, the primary water source for the Gold Coast region.

There are two boat ramps on the lake: the Western Boat Ramp and the Eastern Boat Ramp. The Eastern Boat Ramp, hidden at the back of Mudgeeraba and Advancetown, is a real gem for those looking to explore the dam. This single-lane concrete ramp is ideal for launching small boats, including electric-powered watercraft, sailcraft, and paddle craft. However, it can be steep, so a 4WD is recommended for easier launching.

Parking isn’t an issue, with plenty of space for cars and trailers. Basic amenities are available, including toilets at the car park and a small sheltered picnic area next to the ramp. While the area is a beautiful and quiet spot to unwind, with shaded areas and plenty of space on the water, it lacks some of the extras like BBQ facilities, additional picnic shelters, and jetties, making it less ideal for a full-day outing.

Fishing is allowed from both the shoreline and watercraft, but a permit is required. Anglers are encouraged to practice catch and release, as fish from Hinze Dam may contain naturally occurring mercury and aren’t recommended for consumption.

Wildlife is abundant around the lake, so visitors should take care to dispose of waste properly, especially fishing lines and hooks, to help protect the local ecosystem. Whether you're paddling, fishing, or simply soaking in the tranquillity, Advancetown Lake is a great spot to escape and enjoy nature.

Great boat ramp with easy access to the water. The ramp is well-maintained, clean, and not too steep, making launching and retrieving the boat smooth and stress-free. Plenty of parking available, even during busy hours, and the signage is clear and helpful. Overall, a reliable and convenient ramp—I’d definitely use this one again and recommend it to other boaters.
